Day #6 Aquarium

At the end of Waikiki beach is the Aquarium.
It is part of the University of Hawaii.
Once inside you have a picture taken, that is made available at the end of the visit, if you like it. It is placed over a background of Hawaiian scenery. There is also one with dolphins jumping over you. If we had budgetted better we would have got ours, but the following pictures I reckon were heaps better, showing our visit.

How beautiful all the corals are. Maybe we would have seen these at Hanauma Bay - swimming vs air conditioned aquarium hmm hard to pick.

All the different types of coral.
Staghorn Coral
Cats Eye Coral
Lobe Coral, and
Potato Chip Coral (mmm chips)

Nemo's

A Nautilus, so cool

The sea turtles enclosure was not very big, we felt sorry for it.

Whoa, giant sea clams

Hello there

Is it mean to laugh at fishes?

Hehe, they looked cranky

Hmm whats in there?

Look out behind you
Shark!

Shortfin Mako Shark
6ft 6 inches
Chomp!

Sea horses
And itty bitty baby ones

Grumpy or what

Wait for it
Zoom
Monk seal, fast whilst swimming, easier to photograph whilst not

Harlequin shrimp

Leaf Sea dragon (they look just like pieces of seaweed - very clever)

Rays

Not sure what theses fishes were now, but they were in a round tank, so they were just swimming round and round and round

Heeheeeheee and then we saw this - I suppose fish tanking cleaning is a hands on job - or in this case feets on - he had a scouring brush under one foot and was pushing a broom as well

Yellow, one of my favourite colours

The Aquarium was so good, and just down the road from our hotel. I am so glad we went to see that.

Another thing we missed doing was seeing an actual natural waterfall close up (we saw one from a long way away at Nuuanu Pali). So we stopped at this manmade one on the way back to our hotel.

This is a bike rack, such a fun idea
a storm looked to be brewing

we stopped off under an umbrella, and tried on our leis and hawaiian shirt. Too much Lei maybe

and for some Haagen-Dazs
(always room for dessert)
