Day #4 Oahu Grand Island Circle Tour - a light house to a buddhist temple

We continued north, along the coast line

Makapuu Lighthouse

this was apparently used in the TVseries Magnum PI, Catherine seemed to know what Rodney was talking about, Llew and I could only think of chocolate coated icecreams and pie

Whilst we had chosen the ocean side of the bus

the inland side was just as amazing though, flat then whoosh almost vertical.
This is the township of Waimanalo, there is not that much land between the mountain and the seaside

We stopped at a little Coral shop for a toilet break, and if so necessary some jewellery, we got postcards, to send to Catherine's family

The plan had been to go to the Nuuanu Pali lookout next, a nook in the gap in the mountain range, but the wet set in and there was trouble on the road. Rodney our driver and guide decided due to deadlines at one of our future stops, took a short cut (after the traffic jam), we got to see Kailua in the distance, and finally made it to the location of the Byodo-in temple.

This place was amazing. It was set in the back of a lawn cemetry, I know not the most common tourist destination usually, but it was amazingly gorgeous. There was even a plot for pets (Stephen King would have been pleased). It was so immaculate, and peaceful, which I suppose helps the relatives that are left behind.  We walked over a bridge to the temple beyond. It is a Buddhist monument.

Koi and Black swans graced the pond.

The peace only broken by this massive bell that is rung with a log, Llew and my ears were still ringing quite some time later.

Out of respect for the Buddhists we were politely asked to remove our shoes before entering the temple.

Buddha

Feeding time. Some one had accidentally dropped an apple, no it wasn't me.

Llew's favourite colours (red and yellow).

We got a little distracted by the shop attached to the temple, and had to briskly walk back to the bus.
Lucky charms in hand.

A chinese coin, a lucky cat, a Money Frog, and a crystal (all standing on their heads)
