Our Generation fishing rod - reelly cute

What to do on a luverly sunny afternoon, in the middle of Winter?

Try on a swimsuit I reckon

The Our Generation outfit "The Reel Deal" (still love the names they give their items).

So I confess I really bought this because of the fishing rod, and as a bonus it includes a hat, a rashy shirt, bikini bottoms, sunnies, sandals and a bucket

Now don't go all gun ho with the scissors when opening this, there is fishing line - do not mistake it for packaging. The items otherwise are sewn onto the cardboard backing with threads (lots of them).

With the fishing rod removed first, it has a lure attached

Mariana can balance the rod in her hand

It took me a while to work out the winding handle and the release button, but they actually are a winding handle and a release button!! I thought they were just for show

but if you persevere - bit like a cyclist trying to go places when the chains fallen off the cogs, the lure does actually get reeled in - see its at the tip of the end of the rod - and it holds there, wow

press the blue button to release it again (lure now hiding in the hair of the girl on the front of Novembers American Girl catalogue. Unfortunately the white cap on the reel doesn't want to come off so I can look inside to see how it works - or to add a longer piece of string, maybe the rod was meant for fishing in an ice hole where it doesn't have to go far.

Warning advises that the cord is supposed to be long, and mind you that it is a strangulation hazard.

Anyone want fancy striped bows on their bucket of fish guts?

Then it is all yours...

the bows are held on with those evil H thingys - aka snip em off things asap. Fishing is not a tidy occupation, I don't imagine these bows would look or smell too good rather quickly.

I got really excited about these sandals, the strap has a little silver ring to thread the strap end through

Well I thought so, but maybe I undid the wrong bit, cos it won't hold back on

so of course I did try the other end on the other one just in case I had been mistaken, it too was wrong and would not stay closed, I mumbled and grumbled for a bit, but continued

the underside of these sandals is like, its like a cookie cutter, cool, so once you've got trekking about in fish guts and stuff you can make some cookies with them

is that a bucket hat?

It is very cute, it is white with a white cotton lace overlayer and a thick woven orange ribbon. Fits Mariana very nicely

A pair of pink flower sunnies - that wont stay on Mariana's nose, so onto the hat they went

the rashy shirt and pants are made from what feels like swimsuit material, the frill round the pants middle is not hemmed

those sandals started to bug me a bit

so I decided to cut the straps off, but left the heel bit alone

as it slips over the back of the foot nicely and keeps the sandal on

yep well that shots no better

you will have to believe me, there are fishies in there, but with the limited range on the fishing rod line, they're still gonna be in there, theres no hook either .

So now that we've met the visitor, can we try on all her clothes?

To be polite, is there a period of time that should have lapsed before trying on a new persons clothes?

Because it was sunny and approaching 20 out of the shade the girls wanted to try on Leonie's clothes. These are the body shapes and sizes we had to work with.

Maplelea Leonie, BFC ink Maddie (aka Addison), Journey Girls Kelsey, Australian Girl Matilda, and American Girl Truly Me #61 Tauralie

Leonie's torso is closest to Tauralie, whilst her arms and legs maybe a little larger than Kelsey

it was pretty clear from early on that some girls were just out of the running

she could get the sleeve of the jacket on, just, the khaki pants were a success

she could even sit down in them without popping the fly

the fur coat was a success, the hood being only for show though

and her feet too big for the slippers

the jacket arms are too short for winter wear, but for spring no problem

the dress was gorgeous, the shoes did not fit

the ankle strap a little high in my opinion

The Manitoba Wildflowers outfit on Tauralie worked pretty well

denim jacket - the sleeves were too long and wouldn't snap closed but just rolling the cuff up looked great

Leonie's arms are too long for American girl made things

American Girl skater hoodie (currently owned by BFC ink Maddie)

and the winner of the Most and Biggest Tags Award goes to

Pumpkin Patch Teddy fur coat, this is owned by Trinity, the arms are too short on Leonie by far, and it is less noticeable on Trinity as the body of the coat makes up for part of the sleeve

Accessories- the mittens, I didn't try these on anyone other than

Maddie as her hands are more slender

now just to decide if they are mittens or oven mitts

Tzeitel tried on Leonie's pyjamas

maybe a little tight across the back

but definitely successful on the intended

I wasn't going to try Leonie's underthings on any one else, her stockings unfortunately had a hole in them when I took them out of the box. Fortunately human socks convert very nicely.
