Day #3 a big day out - Honolulu Zoo

Ah, found the pics of random chickens, eckhm Junglefowl or Moa, they were waiting to catch the bus.

 

So a bus came - and we got on heading down the mountain back to Waikiki aiming for Honolulu Zoo (Hawaiian bus drivers are very patient, and helpful), and were dropped off almost at the front door (just down the street a bit).

 

 

We made it inside, Llew and I hiding in the bag, it was so hot we insisted on being let out, we had so much fun

 A bit pot of lillies, I was tempted to dive in with them

This was a mural on the entrance wall, it is made out of tiles, very clever.

The information guide and map we were given on entrance, found it once home in perfect condition - suspect that we forgot to consult it, we went on our merry way though and had a good time all the same

The sign that let us know we were a long way from everywhere, Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney is the closest to our home, only 5623 miles from Honolulu 

 

Another massive Banyan Tree - they are from India I think

 

We get Spoonbills near our place in Australia, but they are white and black, swaying their beaks back and forth in the water looking for food.

 

 

There were lots of lovely flowers everywhere, these are some we saw in the Zoo grounds

They were there, we promise right up the back of the cage, going no where fast

 

 

 

This is the trunk of a gum tree - look at the colours, like someone had painted it

Spot a bird

 

 

It was getting really hot by the time we got here. The cages had sprinklers on, and the Hawk-headed parrots were taking it in turn to run through the sprinklers, we were jealous,  

and almost (but not quite) tempted to join the turtle. Zoom in on the rock in the middle.

The phone battery died at this point - we'd been using the camera on it, so we had to swap to an actual camera, the pictures look a little washed out.

and last but not least my favourite animal - the Tiger, yay, I'm glad we got to see him, it was so hot, we went home after this, well back to the hotel. 

 

We did find a photo booth whilst at the Zoo, and got to take some silly shots of us with Catherine, a memento of our time. I don't think we expected to get on so well together, being different ages and brands, but I think Llew and I will now always be best of friends.

A morning with Phil

the Journey Girls wardrobe

 

It comes disassembled

These are all the pieces for the project

including coathangers. This is Chavonne (she came home with me from Hawaii). Chavonne has in her right hand (left of picture) the coathanger from the new wardrobe, and in her left (right of picture) the coathanger that is often included in the Journey Girls clothes packs. There is a definite size and style difference.  Chavonne will be helping Phil and I with our project today.

All the pieces were well protected. Styrofoam and protective sheets were wrapped around each piece.

Instructions

Screws and hinges, dowell and white plugs

We found the instructions fairly easy to follow.

Each piece is numbered, or the little bags were lettered.

To work

The screws for the hinges were probably the most difficult, because they were so tiny

 

I found it easier to put the hinges on the wall and door whilst they were not attached to the rest of the wardrobe.

Clothes galore

There are hanging knobs on the left of picture door, but I found if I had anything on there when trying to close the door it would not shut. Which makes them almost pointless unless the idea is to have the wardrobe doors open all the time.

There were decorative stickers to stick at will

 

hmm and two little screws left over, hmmm the wardrobe hasn't collapsed yet, maybe they are spares.
