After a short wait we got into to see the optometrist, who had a look into Mercedes eyes, and gave her an eye examination.
The news wasn't so bad after all. The Doctor thought it was eye strain, and it might also have been impacted by Mercedes recent illness, she was still a bit tired out from it all. He recommended glasses for reading, and to make sure there was good lighting when she did so. She did not have to wear the glasses all the time, just reading, and in the class room, night time driving, though that wouldn't be for a while.
There was a selection of glasses available in Mercedes size, if she liked any we could take them today, otherwise she'd need to wait until the was more stock on hand. Mercedes was keen to read as soon as possible, and so she had a look and a little try on.
